"We have indicated to the UEFA that those who have been vaccinated can participate in the European Championship matches in Budapest," Gergely Gulyás said at Thursday's Cabinet Meeting, adding that "everyone who wants to be vaccinated can be vaccinated by the end of May" and since the European Championship matches in Hungary take place in June, "we hope that we will put this terrible period behind us by then."
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has previously asked the federations of the host countries to come up with a plan by April 7 on how many spectators they can allow into the matches.
At the end of January, The Times reported that the UEFA had developed an emergency scenario according to which only fans from the host countries can attend the European Championship matches – in which case the whole ticketing process would start over.
In the Puskás Aréna, three group matches (two of which will be played by the Hungarian national team) and an eighth final are scheduled originally.
Gulyás also stated that "the few sporting events held in Hungary that are organized under the strictest rules don't endanger the outbreak control measures.”
