“I'm super happy. I feel lucky; I felt like it was my day to enjoy the beautiful Maglia Rosa on a quite easy day,” Attila Valter said in a quick interview after arriving at the finish line.
"[My] team kept me in the front at all times. (...) The end, of course, was hectic, but I felt like a different rider in this jersey. I managed to stay quite in the front and stay out of trouble. Tomorrow, I can start again in this beautiful jersey which is a dream come true.”
The Hungarian cyclist sums up how riding was different while wearing the pink jersey:
“Normally, I can climb well... but positioning is not my strength. I think today it's changed, and I felt respected in the peloton. I want to thank all the fellow riders for congratulating me and letting me pass through when I needed. I felt like a completely different rider. When passing along the beautiful cities of Italy with all the people cheering Maglia Rosa, I had to realize every time that it's me, I'm Maglia Rosa. It was incredible!”
In the Giro's official channel's interview, he couldn't not say a few words in Hungarian too:
"Thank you for another opportunity. It's another beautiful day in Maglia Rosa... I mean, the first beautiful day of my life in Maglia Rosa. Tomorrow is another day! Thank you all for support I get from home; it's an amazing feeling not just for you, but for me as well. I hope the whole Hungarian cycling sport gets a ricochet and we only go up from here," Valter told his Hungarian fans.
