Champions League: Atlético and Chelsea possibly to play also in Budapest

Currently, like in Germany, it is not possible to travel to Spain from Great Britain. Since neither the German nor Spanish government wish to make exception to the English football teams, a substitute venue is necessary for the RB Leipzig–Liverpool match scheduled for February 16 and for the Atlético Madrid–Chelsea game on February 23 in the Champions League knockout stage.

We've previously reported that the Leipzig-Liverpool game could be held in Puskás Aréna in Budapest as a possible venue (after the Hungarian capital hosted the Bayern München-Sevilla Super Cup in the fall), and on Friday several French sources reported that the Atlético-Chelsea match could also take place in Budapest.

Sofoot.comquotes a Spanish journalist: Antonio Ruiz said in a sports program that football teams should not be exempt from the entry ban issued by the Iberian Parliament, so Atlético is already exploring where they could host the match. According to Ruiz, negotiations with the Principality of Monaco and Hungary have started, so the Stade Luis II or the Puskás Aréna could be considered as a substitute venue.

The portal mentions that, due to regulations in Portugal, the location of the Benfica–Arsenal match in the Europa League may also be in question. However, after February 17 restrictions may be relaxed in several countries (the current legislation is in force in Germany until February 17), so the situation may still change before the next Europa League round on February 18.
