Viktor Orbán: Hungary also stands against the formation of the European Super League

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán welcomes the UEFA's position that strongly opposes the efforts of forming a Super League, and has faith in unity and solidarity, the PM's press secretary, Bertalan Havasi, told the Hungarian Telegraphic Office (MTI) on Monday.

Hungary is convinced that the beauty and sublimity of the world's most popular game is a result of the fact that this sport equally belongs to everybody and cannot be expropriated by the richest," Orbán said according to the MTI's article.

The Prime Minister made it clear that Hungary supports the UEFA, FIFA, as well as the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) to protect the integrity of federal competitions whether at national or European level, the telegraph office report reads.

The MTI recalls that the UEFA, together with the English, Italian and Spanish member federations, had condemned the formation of the Super League on Sunday before the official announcement was made.

The UEFA has imposed heavy sanctions and says it is doing everything in its power to prevent the start of the new league. In addition to the UEFA and FIFA, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron have also criticized bringing the Super League to life.

On Sunday night, 12 clubs, AC Milan, Arsenal, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, FC Barcelona, Inter, Juventus FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, announced in a joint statement that they had agreed to start a joint league. Florentino Pérez, Real Madrid's club president, became the first president of the League. According to him, the new elite series, the Super League, could launch as early as August 2021.
