Szekler land clubs would amend the disciplinary rules of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) to punish the discriminatory, disparaging, racist, xenophobic remarks more severely that have become regular in the past month, and of which anti-Hungarian sentiment is often a clear part.

According to the proposal submitted by FK Miercurea Ciuc and Sepsi OSK, the limit of the fine that can be imposed – currently between 5000 and 70,000 lei (about 1000 and 15,000 Euros, respectively) should be increased. At the same time, in the event of a repetition of similar events, the offending clubs could be punished with deducting points.

Zoltán Szondy, president of FK, and Dávid Kertész, vice-president of Sepsi, agreed at a joint press conference that such fines had no effect. Therefore, clubs reaching the ceiling limit (which would be increased to 80,000 lei, or 17,000 Euros) would be punished with closed-door matches and a 3-point deduction at the same time. In addition, in the event of xenophobic acts, the referee must interrupt the games and warn the fans. If the act gets repeated, the referee will immediately end the match, and the points would be awarded to the blameless club.

László Diószegi, president of Sepsi OSK, sees a 1-percent chance of the FRF general meeting accepting the proposal of the two clubs in Szekler land.

„However, if we never do anything, we will never have a chance to change things. We look forward to the reactions. Even if they shelve it, we will have time to plan the next step" – Diószegi told Nemzeti Sport, adding that the events of the upcoming matches will also determine their decision.
