It is not yet known where Martin Ádám, the top scorer in NB I, will start the 2022-2023 season, but the two-time national team player signed in at the reception of the national team base camp in Telki as Paks' attacker.
"If someone had told me at the beginning of the year that the season would not end for me with the last league round, I would hardly have believed him. But it's needless to say how happy I am to be here," the 27-year-old striker told our newspaper. "I am very honored to receive an invitation from Marco Rossi again and look forward to the four games ahead. I don't know how many opportunities I will get, but I'll try to take advantage of every minute. I also had a good time at the national team training in March, but it was still somewhat in the spirit of familiarizing with the squad. Now I know everything and everyone, and I can only confirm what others have said before: this is a great community!"
However, the four matches mentioned above can worsen the atmosphere: in just eleven days, the Hungarian national team will face England twice, and once each with Italy and Germany. Is there cause for concern?
"I don't think we should be afraid of anyone," said Martin Ádám. "Of course, we know what reality is, our opponents are ranked much higher than us, but they are also just people... The players in top leagues have had a long season, but I don't think they aren't taking the Nations League games seriously because of that. They can represent their country, which gives them the same motivation as we do. A player may be tired, but he can get his act together for 90 minutes. We are not thinking about how strong our rivals are, but we have in mind that we are getting the best out of ourselves. If we do it, we can come off the field with our heads held high, regardless of the outcome."
In recent weeks, there has been news that foreign clubs would also be buyers for the top scorer in the Hungarian league, and according to reports, one of the interested ones is Luton Town in the Championship. Martin Ádám could prove against the English that the prestigious association would make a good deal with him.
"To be honest, these days I'm not primarily interested in where I can transfer to," he said. "Obviously, there are more observers at the national team match than at Paks. However, I am not concerned with my future, but about making our team as successful as possible. I have been able to wear the national team jersey twice so far. I had a little over 20 minutes to play against Serbia and Northern Ireland, so I tried to show what I am capable of. It will be no different this time either. If I get the opportunity, I would like to take advantage of it. The encore would be to score my first goal – that would be the perfect end to this wonderful season."
