The Italian head coach already expressed his concern about the footballer at a press conference following Wednesday's win of 4-1 at the World Cup qualifier against Andorra. The midfielder fell to the ground with a sore face after a jump and limped off the pitch with a knee bandage.
He returned to the pitch with two crutches under his arm after the game finished, and although he was optimistic after the initial diagnosis, Saturday's tests unfortunately showed worse results than expected.
Basically, the worst-case scenario became the reality. EM Sports Consulting, that is representing the 25-year-old DAC midfielder, posted on its official Facebook page on Saturday night that the tests had revealed a lateral collateral ligament tear in his left knee.
Injuries of this nature usually require a recovery time of 4-6 months, so this season the player in fantastic form will surely miss this summer's European Championships.
