On Friday early afternoon, it was revealed that FTC's head coach, Serhiy Rebrov, who was appointed in August 2018, would leave his position after nearly three years. The Ukrainian professional spoke to Nemzeti Sport about the signing of the contract termination papers. A little later, in a statement published on the club's official website, it was confirmed that Rebrov was indeed leaving the club.

"We've signed the documents on the termination of the contract. I'm baffled by all this; I'm sad about what's happened. I had a great time at Ferencváros, and we achieved great successes," Serhiy Rebrov told our portal.

Serhiy Rebrov succeeded Thomas Doll as head coach of Ferencváros in August 2018, and according to the statistics from transfermarkt.com, he's sat on the Green and White's bench in 133 games and led his team to a league title in all three seasons.

In Fall 2020, Rebrov led Ferencváros to the group stage of the Champions League, where he previously played 25 years ago. The coach, who turned 47 on Thursday, was in the Europa League group stage with the Green and Whites a year earlier.

Gábor Kubatov, president of Ferencváros, said two weeks ago that Rebrov had resigned from the club in early February, while Rebrov told Zbirna this week that his leave wasn't planned.

UPDATE, 1.45pm

According to a statement on FTC's official website, "Serhiy Rebrov resigns as head coach of FTC men's football team.”

The 47-year-old Ukrainian trainer sat on Ferencváros' bench a total of 161 times between August 2018 and May 2021. He won three Hungarian league titles with FTC and was in the main round of the Champions League in 2020. The three league titles achieved in a row in the Rebrov era are even more important as Ferencváros previously could win championships for three consecutive years 93 years earlier, between 1926 and 1928. Serhiy Rebrov irrevocably entered himself into the club's history."

In the statement, the departing coach thanked the club and fans for their support, but it's not yet published who would replace Rebrov.
