The solemn – virtual – award ceremony will take place on Monday night in Vigevano, the famous riding hall of the Renaissance castle in the small town of northern Italy. The nominees will be remotely connected in the live broadcast. The broadcast will be available on AIPS's YouTube channel and its Facebook page as well. The young Hungarian photojournalist, Anna Szilágyi – whose picture appeared on fradi.hu – competes with a Chinese and a Portugal colleague from a large Chinese photo agency and The Guardian respectively.
György Szöllősi, President of the Hungarian Sports Journalists' Association and Editor-in-Chief of Nemzeti Sport, congratulated Anna Szilágyi, who won the MSÚSZ Award of Excellence last year, on the phone for her fantastic success. Mr. Szöllősi said that the entire Hungarian sports family can be proud of such accomplishment, and that he was very surprised by the achievement as he felt realistic to be shortlisted at most. It was already incredible to see her name next to the names of Getty Images photographers and other famous foreign colleagues.
"I am very glad that I made it to the finals, and especially happy that Hungary has such athletes, such water polo team that such pictures can be taken of,” said Anna Szilágyi who works at FotóSarok, a photo agency taking pictures mainly for FradiMedia.
The pre-selection of 1,781 entries in a total of 11 categories was carried out by the AIPS 24-member Executive Committee of experienced sports journalists from five continents. The panel has a Hungarian member the person of MSÚSZ Vice President dr. Zsuzsa Csisztu. The best ten and the best three, then the selection of the winner is the task of a ten-member, very prestigious international jury in which the world's largest media companies, news and image agencies are represented.
Due to the pandemic, representatives of the national sports journalists' associations will not be able to attend the third AIPS Media Awards, as was the case for the first time in Lausanne and last year in Budapest with hundreds of attendees and world-famous athletes and sports leaders.
