The Hungarian men's short track speed skaters had the last chance today to win a medal which was the 500m as they remain in competition in the Final B relay only.
The quarterfinals did not start very well, as firstShaolin Sándor Liuand thenJohn-Henry Kruegerlost there, and onlyShaoang Liureached the semi-finals as the heat winner and then the final.
Dubois of Canada overtook Liu in both heats at the start, but then Shaoang managed to overtake Dubois twice. In the final, however, he immediately took the lead, and although Ivliev of the ROC was close behind him, he could not take the lead. So, after 40 seconds, Liu finished first,as an Olympic champion, ahead of Ivliev and Dubois.
Shaoang Liu has set several records with his performance today. He is the first Hungarian to become an individual Olympic champion, the first Hungarian two-time Olympic winner and the only who has four medals at the Winter Games.
